Dr. Aronoff is the Medical Director of Carolina Pain Associates in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was also Associate Professor at Duke Univeristy Medical Center from 2005 - 2009. From 1976 to 1994, he was the Director of the Boston Pain Center. He is the past President of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, past President of the North Carolina Pain Society, past President of the New England Pain Association and of the Eastern Pain Association (EPA). From 1982 to 1987, he was Chairman of the American Pain Society's Committee on Pain Centers and chaired a similar committee with the AAPM. He had an appointment as a Pain Consultant with the Food and Drug Administration Arthritis Advisory Committee from 1988 to 1992. Dr. Aronoff served on the Advisory Board for the International Physician's Commission for the Protection of Prisoners. He served on National Advisory Committees for Pain in 1982, 1987 and 1998. He chaired the AAPM Committee looking at pain care at the end of life to establish guidelines for euthanasia and physician assisted suicide and serves on the NC End of Life Task Force. He was senior author of the Fibromyalgia Task Force report for the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians and chaired the CRPSI (RSD) Committee. He was senior author of the position papers from both committees. He has an appointment as consultant to the Worker Compensation North Carolina I.A.B. Task Force. Since 2003 he has been Honorary Chairman of the Republican Party Physicians Advisory Board and received the 2003 National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Dr. Aronoff is a frequent lecturer and author on chronic pain treatment. He edited the textbook EVALUATION AND TREATMENT OF CHRONIC PAIN (1985/1992). He is author of EVALUATION AND TREATMENT OF CHRONIC PAIN 3rd Edition, (1999), as well as two volumes: PAIN MANAGEMENT IN CHINA, (1984) and PAIN MANAGEMENT IN THE SOVIET UNION, (1985). His most recent book is HANDBOOK ON PHARMALOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF CRONIC PAIN published in early 2005 (Wave Crest Publishing). To purchase this book visit www.wavecrestpublishing.com. He is the senior author of HANDBOOK ON THE RATIONAL USE OF MEDICATION FOR PAIN, (1987) and is author of PAIN CENTERS: A REVOLUTION IN HEALTH CARE, (1988). In addition, Dr. Aronoff was Editor-in-Chief of the Clinical Journal of Pain from 1985 to 1990, is Executive Editor of Pain Practice and on the Advisohery Board for MDConsult. Dr. Aronoff is a graduate of the New Jersey College of Medicine (1972). He completed his psychiatric residency at Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital, followed by a fellowship in psychosomatic and consultation psychiatry at Boston University Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians, a fellow of the American College of Pain Medicine, a life fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners, is board certified in Pain Medicine, Forensic Medicine, and Psychiatry, and is certified by the American Board of Independent Medical Evaluators (ABIME).
